The Neusiedler See in Winter

The huge Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland freezes over on cold winter days and offers 320 square kilometres of space to make long circuits on thick ice in the winter sun and enjoy the expansive Pannonian atmosphere.

The ice is easy to reach from the beach car parks, and benches for putting on your skates are also available. In some places around the lake, skate rental stations are also open on weekends.

As well as ice skating, ice sailors and surfers enjoy the wide steppe lake. The Lang sailing school in Mörbisch or the Yacht Club Weiden, for example, offer the opportunity to sail across the lake with expert guidance. The Nordstrand Surfing and Sailing School in Podersdorf offers ice surfing and ice kiting.

Visitors can find out whether the ice cover is thick enough by calling the ice telephones in the towns around the lake.
