Hiking around the Gosausee

The Gosausee in Upper Austria is a hidden treasure situated at the foot of the Dachstein mountains.

The Vordere Gosausee lies in the middle of the mountains, a good distance from the next village. Those who make the journey to reach its banks normally take the time to marvel at the view.

There is hardly any other place in Austria where the 2995 metre high Dachstein shows itself from such a beautiful perspective.

Some will be familiar with the view. The “Eye of God”, as the locals call the composition of lake and mountain, is one of the most frequently photographed motifs in the region and has been immortalised time and again by painters.

The family-friendly hike around Lake Gosau takes about an hour. Along the way there is a bathing area with a meadow for sunbathing. You can also explore the lake by electric boat or pedal boat. The boat rental is open from July to early September and also offers stand-up paddle boards.
