Upper Austria

Discover the different sides of Upper Austria, from the lakes and mountains of the Salzkammergut to the towns along the Danube valley and, of course, the cultural capital of Linz.

Linz combines the history of the old town and the main square with a more modern outlook. Known as an industrial centre, the capital of Upper Austria has transformed itself into a modern pioneer of art and technology exhibitions and festivals.

The picturesque waters and peaks of the Salzkammergut region around the former Imperial spa holiday destination Bad Ischl offer the traditional lakes and mountain experience.

Further south is the much photographed town of Hallstatt, with its stunning situation on the lake, along with the Dachstein mountain range and its impressive Giant Ice Cave.

Hallstatt and the lake

In between the two areas, the small towns of Kremsmünster and Sankt Florian house two of the oldest religious institutions in Austria.
