Cycling around Salzburg

The 24-kilometre cycle path through Salzburg runs mainly along the river Salzach and offers great views of some of the major sights in the city.

Biking the full trail, which the city authorities market as the ‘Instagrammable Salzburg Cycle Path’ takes around two and a half hours.

First head north to the pilgrimage church of Maria Plain. This opens up one of the most beautiful views of Salzburg and the surrounding mountains.

With a view of the city and the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the route leads to Hellbrunn Palace with its beautiful park – a perfect place to take a rest.

You could almost forget you were in a big city on the final section along the Almkanal to Schloss Leopoldskron, a quiet and natural corner of Salzburg.
