Flying Over The Water

There is always plenty going on in summer on the shores of the Neusiedlersee in eastern Austria.

Swimmers appreciate the warm water temperatures – the lake is Central Europe’s largest steppe lake with no outflow and its maximum depth is only two metres.

Windsurfers and kite surfers will frequently also find perfect conditions. There is almost always a breeze blowing over the flat surrounding Burgenland countryside.

When kitesurfing, you stand on a board and let yourself be pulled by a stunt kite. How to coordinate both and use the wind power optimally is best practised in courses. The kite schools offer taster courses, day courses, multi-day courses and refresher courses.

Visitors can rent the appropriate equipment – from the board to the “kite”, the stunt kite – in the numerous surf and kite schools. They also offer courses for beginners and experts. Those who want to learn to surf can choose for themselves how long their beginner course should last. The VÖWS (Association of Austrian Water Sports Schools) windsurfing basic licence, which is recognised worldwide, can be obtained in five days.
