Whether it’s a rooftop ice rink or a romantic skating rink in the Rathauspark: Vienna offers keen skaters great opportunities to strut their stuff.
High above Vienna’s rooftops, they can dance on the ice under the open sky at the Engelmann ice rink. The first open-air ice rink in the world, it was founded over 100 years ago and has been located on the roof of a building in the 17th district since the 1970s.
Ice skating is also a special pleasure at the Wiener Eislaufverein near the Stadtpark: the traditional rink in the heart of the city is more than 150 years old and attracts visitors with perfectly prepared ice and ice-skating lessons. Users are requested to reserve tickets online.
The Vienna Ice Dream (‘Wiener Eistraum‘) in front of the magnificent backdrop of the City Hall is also unique. Here, romantic routes through the Rathauspark invite you to glide on two blades. The ice rink opens for winter 2020 on 24 December.
Ice skating in Vienna is possible as long as the Corona measures currently in force continue. Social distancing is generally always observed on the ice itself and masks are compulsory wherever there is no ice. Wearing a mouth-nose protection is therefore also necessary outdoors, except for children under six years of age.
