The Glacier World of the Stubai

It is an inspiring and rocky world when you reach the altitudes between 2000 and 2800 metres. The views of glaciers and the eternal white of the high mountains are always impressive.

While the views may be jaw-dropping, the hike on the 80-kilometre Stubaier Höhenweg (Stubai High Route) in the Tyrol is pretty demanding.

Those who want to master the seven stages must be sure-footed, free from vertigo and fit.

Days can include between three and eight hours of walking and 8000 metres of total altitude difference have to be completed. Some passages are secured with steel ropes and in other places hikers have to master short climbing passages. However, the trail does not include glacier crossings.

There are eight huts on the way for overnight stays and a bite to eat. These include the start and finish points of the tour: the Starkenburger Hütte and the Innsbrucker Hütte, both of which are accessible from Neustift in the Stubai valley.

The package “8000 metres of Altitude Difference in Eight Days” is bookable until 30 September. It includes overnight stays with half board in the huts and costs start from 475 Euros per person.
