Lakes and Mountains in the Kitzbühel Alps

Visitors can experience real Tyrolean ‘lakes and mountains’ in the easternmost tip of the Kitzbühel Alps.

The Pillersee valley is situated in gentle grassy mountains and takes its name from the emerald-green Pillersee lake. The Pillersee itself is perfect for cooling down on a hot summer’s day as the temperature of the mountain lake rarely rises above 20 degrees even at the height of summer.

The name of the Badesee Waidring (‘Waidring bathing lake’) illustrates that it is a perfect location for a dip, while the Lauchsee in Fieberbrunn, just four metres deep, only needs a few sunny days for the water temperature to rise. While swimmers start the season early here, “wellness” guests appreciate the healing and pain-relieving effect of the moor water.

Visitors can also try the picturesquely situated Wildseelodersee at 1854 metres above sea level, smaller lakes such as the Wiesensee and crystal-clear mountain streams. Just pack a picnic basket and enjoy the day with the family.

The Pillersee valley also boasts three sets of mountain lifts which open in summer. The modern facilities in Fieberbrunn, St. Jakob in Haus and Waidring help visitors into the mountain world above the PillerseeTal.

Hikers get their money’s worth on the 400 km of marked walking trails while mountain bikers can also head out on numerous trails and tours. When it is time for a break, the sun terraces at the mountain huts entice with spectacular views and local delicacies.
