Swimming in a Mountain Lake

Swimming in the mountain lakes of Vorarlberg doesn’t have to be a chilling experience!

The Seewaldsee in the Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Park has very little water running into it and so remains at a generally pleasant temperature of around 24°C in the high summer, attracting swimmers and sunbathers in the region.

Getting to the lovely Seewaldsee involves a walk of around 30 minutes or so from the village of Fontanella.

The road to the mountain lake at 1200 metres in altitude is closed to public traffic, although a summer ‘tractor-train’ service organised by the guesthouse at the lake runs at weekends for those who might find the relatively short hike too difficult.
