A Golden Secret From The Land Of Volcanoes

The Vulkanland in Eastern Styria is a fertile region of Austria where volcanoes formed the landscape millions of years ago. Styrian farmers and winegrowers still benefit from the soil today.

The Vulkanland Sektmanufaktur was founded here in the village of Riegersburg a few years ago and produces the white, red and rosé sparkling wines known as ‘Sekt’ in German.

The white sparkling wines are made from Welschriesling, White Burgundy or Yellow Muscatel varieties, while the red sparkling wines and rosé are from Zweigelt grapes. All sparkling wines are produced according to the traditional champagne method with a maturing period of at least twelve months.

A particular white Sekt cuvée offers an additional special feature: 23-carat gold leaf floats in the “Goldrausch” (“Gold Rush”).

Tastings are held on request in the 350-year-old vaulted cellar of the facility. The “Vulkanland Sekt Kulinarium”, a delicatessen shop and small restaurant, displays around 300 different delicacies from the volcanic country.
